As I was working on these photos from our ranch weaning today I got choked up wishing I could show my Papa these. He always loved seeing my photos and it always lead to him telling some wild tales about days gone by when he was the one riding a good horse off into the sunset. It’s been almost a year since he’s been gone and oh I miss him so much!
I am so thankful that I can a life with Nelson that continues the heritage that was passed on to me. And someday I will show my daughter pictures of my papa and tell her his wild stories of his life as a hardworking cowboy.
But back to the pictures. We wean our baby calves off the mama’s in the fall after we’ve made sure everything has come down fat and happy out of the mountain summer pastures. The ranch is still “Old School” in how we do things so all our cattle are worked horseback and as gently as possible. Makes for the best kind of photos!
I LOVE being a cowboy-wife where I can photograph images like this in my backyard! Here is a sideshow with more of the images I took during the works. Enjoy! (Click to enlarge image.)
